Mickelson Trail

On Saturday, August 23rd, we walked to Hill City on the George S. Mickelson trail. Mickelson was a popular South Dakota governor who was killed in an airplane crash near Dubuque, IA in 1993. The trail is about 110 miles long and is an old railroad right-of-way. Lucky for us, the trail runs right past our campground. Hill City is 3 miles from our campground, so we walked into town and ate dinner at the Alpine Inn. The picture of me on the trail shows the great sun shirt I bought before we started on our trip. Although it is not necessarily a fashion statement, it is very lightweight, is made of sun-resistant fabric, and keeps the sun off of me without making me hot. It has worked out well.

The photo of me at the little table is at the Alpine Inn while we were waiting to go in. In the evenings, the Alpine Inn serves only filet mignon with a baked potato and a wedge of lettuce with homemade ranch dressing. In other words, everyone has the exact same meal, and they serve about 600 people a night. The cost is $8.95 for the 6 oz and 10.95 for the 8 oz. It is a very popular restaurant serving a lot of filet mignon each night!

The pictures of me with the motor scooter are really just to include a photo of the motor scooter--I do not ever really drive it! The motor scooter has been working out wonderfully. We get about 70 mpg and enjoy our unobstructed views of all the wonderful scenery.

Ellen,
I did not get the pictures with this posting.
It sounds like you are having a wonderful time.
Our storm has passed, but there is another brewing. It sounds like it is going into the Gulf. Goood for us, but not so good for the Gulf coast.

We were having such problems with Rafter J Bar Campground's Internet and photo posting. We are now in Mitchell, SD, and have been able to catch up all our photo posting.
