Rafter J Bar Ranch

We arrived in the Mount Rushmore area on Thursday morning, and settled into our campground near Hill City, South Dakota. Our campground is called Rafter J Bar Ranch, and it is the largest acreage we have ever seen in a campground. They have hundreds of camping sites, about 30 cabins, several houses (we assume the family that owns and runs the campground lives in the houses), several bath/laundry buildings, a swimming pool, a couple of game rooms, a large tent for the daily pancake breakfast, a stable with about 10 horses, and enough unused land to develop hundreds of new camping sites.

By walking all the roads around the campground, we can easily get in our typical three-mile walk. And, the roads are fairly shady since there are so many trees on the grounds. Also, Tree-filled mountains surround the campground, so it is absolutely gorgeous. It is about a 10 minute drive to Mount Rushmore.
